Scrapbooking with a Card Kit - Stamped Treasures

In today’s post I’m sharing a few tips on scrapbooking with a card kit using the February 2025 Hello Spring Paper Pumpkin kit. I say it every month when my kit arrives, Paper Pumpkin makes creating layouts so quick & easy!

When my kit arrives each month I usually create one of each of the projects to familiarize myself with the contents of the kit. The next project I create is a scrapbook layout, which is what I’m sharing today. This year I’ve added in the challenge to use up the rest of the kit contents before the end of the month. It’s been fun!

This months kit includes all the supplies to create 9 beautiful cards (3 each of 3 designs). Here’s a look at them.

Let’s take a look at the layout…

Stampin’ Up!’s Paper Pumpkin kits tend to be card making kits, and occasion include the supplies to create 3D projects. However, there is so much more that you can do with these kits with a bit of creativity. I love creating scrapbook layouts with them because so much is already done for you. The things you’d normally stamp, colour and die cut are already done for you. Plus everything in the box is meant to go together so you don’t need to pull together supplies that coordinate. SU! has done it for you.

For today’s layout the only additional products I’ve added to the Hello Spring kit, is a piece of 12×12 white card stock, some scraps of white; a stamp set for my title; a couple of coordinating ink pads; some gems and a couple of punches. Everything else was included in the kit.

However, because Stampin’ Up!’s Paper Pumpkin kits tend to be card making kits, and on occasion include the supplies to create 3D projects, you need to get a bit creative. The card bases, for the most part, are 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ so they can be a bit tricky for a 12″ x 12″ layout. However, with a bit of creativity, there’s still so much that you can do!

The Details…

I cut the card bases into 3″ x 8-1/2″ strips and created tags to use as a background for my layout. In the past I’ve punched, or die cut shapes, like this layout. But you can be strategic by covering seems, or gaps, with photos, or embellishment clusters to give the illusion of a longer piece of pattern paper like I did on this layout.

Because the elements that you’d include on a card tend to be a little smaller than a 12×12 layout, finding ways to make them feel larger helps. In today’s layout I used used one of the label shapes as a title place holder and added one of the smaller die cut elements to it.

Creating clusters like I did in this layout works really well. If that still isn’t working for you, try adding your cluster to a label shape, tag or die cut circle.

Get creative with how you use the pieces in the kit. For example, the label shape isn’t just a title place holder, but also a pocket to hold the business card and a tag for my journaling.

Lastly don’t feel like you need to restrict yourself to just the contents of the kit. Pull out a few coordinating supplies to add to the kit. Working with a kit like this can help you also use products from your stash. I’ll often pull out retired embellishments, or some matching ribbon or twine, if there are none included in the kit.
