Today I’m sharing some winter owls card ideas that were created using scraps leftover from last weeks live. In this post I shared 3 simple pocket card ideas and in the video I mentioned that I planned on using up the scraps. The cards I’m sharing today are the result of using up those bits & pieces.
I started by creating some backgrounds using the leftover pieces. The triangular pieces were easy. I just added two of them to a card base to create a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer. However, I wanted an additional layer for one of them. So I added them to a scrap piece of paper first and then trimmed that piece down to 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″ so that I could mat it onto a piece of basic white before adding it to the card base. The card base in the lower right was also splattered with some white ink.
The 1-1/2″ x 12″ strip that was left from the pocket cards was cut into three 4″ pieces and then distressed using my paper snips. After creating the background I added my focal points.
The Finished Cards…
For the first card I used some of the beautiful night of navy & gold ribbon and a couple of the stamped images.
I really like the simplicity of this second one. I used both the branch dies in the winter owls dies and then looked through my scrap ribbons for anything silver. Next I found some of the fibers from the silver threaded twine and tied a bow to tuck in behind the owl.
For the third card I stamped the tree image in night of navy along the bottom and then used a white gel pen to add little dots so that it looks like snow. The owl was stamped with Staz On onto water colour paper and then water coloured. Some more fibers from the silver threaded twine adds a nice subtle bit of texture behind the owl.
And for the last card I kept it simple and used the die cut owl and again some fibers from my scrap jar. I always go to that jar first before cutting from my spools.

Until next time,
