In today’s post I’m sharing 3 simple pocket card ideas using patterned paper. The 3 designs can easily be reproduced over and over for all occasions. There’s a video linked below where you I share tips on cutting your paper to make the most of it.
The first two cards use the beautiful Winter Owl bundle from the September to December mini catalogue and the last one uses the Merriest Trees bundle.
For this first one we are going to add the pocket on the inside of the card.
Measurements:
- Night of Navy: 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″
- Oh Holy Night DSP: 5-1/4″ x 12″ scored at 4″ and 8″ then diagonally cut the right panel from the upper left score line to the lower right corner
- Basic White: 3-3/4″ x 4-3/4″ and 3″ x 3-1/2″
- Silver Foil: 2″ x 4″
- Vellum: 3″ x 3″ cut with the 2nd largest Stylish Shapes circle
- Sparkle Gems: x3
The white insert can be added to the pocket, or you could attach it to the inside left panel. This card design is perfect for adding a flat little gift like a gift card, bookmark or tea bag.
The second card is called a crisscross card and has the pocket on the outside. It follows the same basic idea as the first one. I added the pocket to a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of card stock and will write my message on the white insert. However, you can also mount this onto a full card front so that you can add your message to the inside of your card.
Measurements:
- Night of Navy: 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″
- Oh Holy Night DSP: 5-1/4″ x 12″ scored at 4″ and 8″ then cut the left panel from the upper right score line to the lower left corner and the right panel from the upper left corner to the lower right corner. See video for a better explanation of this.
- Basic White: 3-3/4″ x 4-3/4″ ; 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ cut with the 3rd largest Stylish Shapes circle; 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″ for stamping and 1/2″ strip for the greeting
- Iridescent Ribbon: 10″
- Sparkle Gems: x2
The final card I’m sharing is a pocket within a pocket card:)
I love this card design but if you are using directional patterned paper, it’s important to think through how you cut and score it. I share tips in the video linked below.
Measurements:
- Pretty Peacock: 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ and 1/4″ x 3-3/4″ strip
- A Walk in the Park DSP: 4″ x 10-1/2″ (score at 5-1/4″ and 9-1/4″) and 1-1/2″ x 4″
- Basic White: 3-3/4″ x 5″
- Herringbone Ribbon: 5″
- White Twine: 8″
- Glitter Sequins: x2
I’m all about using up my scraps as I create. There was a 1-1/2″ x 4″ piece of patterned paper left after cutting the piece I needed for my card so I turned it into a pocket to hold a gift card on the insert.
Here’s the video where I create these three cards and share tips along the way.
