Today I’m straying a little from my usual paper crafting projects to share the details of my daughters tropical themed bridal shower. The inspiration for the shower all stemmed from a package of napkins.
I love to pick up pretty napkins when I see them. I had these ones in my drawer since before Covid hit. My intention was to use them for a tropical themed event that ended up getting cancelled because of Covid. Since my daughter and her fiancé are planning a Hawaiin honeymoon I thought the tropical theme would be perfect.
So the colour palette was melon mambo, calypso coral, old olive and pear pizzazz. I also through in a little bit of polished pink for some variation in pinks. You can see that the colours work perfectly with the napkins.
Now the fun begins. I started by cutting LOTS of flowers and leaves in various sizes. I used my Silhouette to do this. These were going to be used for a back drop, table decor and to decorate a chair that I borrowed. LOTS were needed.
The Backdrop
Next up came the backdrop. The purpose of this was to use as the photo booth, but also to have something pretty behind the chair my daughter was going to sit in when she opened her gifts. My husband and I used this tutorial from Abbi Kirsten Collections to build it. It was quick & easy to make out of PVC pipes and comes apart for easy transportation and storage.
It was hard to get a good photo because it was set up in our basement and there wasn’t a lot of room to get a head on shot. I picked up a couple sheers from Wal-Mart to soften the background. That ended up being so much easier and less expensive than going and buying a bunch of fabric. And I thought it looked great.
Here’s a photo of what it will look like all decorated.
I managed to find someone who had this chair and was willing to loan it to us for the day. There were so many people that loaned us various things to use in order for the whole event to come together.
For the photo booth I rounded up a few things. The parasol and the leis were from the party store. The hat was one that SU! sent us in our Maui incentive gift box last year. And the little props on sticks and the sign were free downloads. I found the props on the Kristen Duke Photography blog here. And the other props were from Oh Happy Day.
The table decor was kept pretty simple with just a couple leaves in the centre and a pineapple. Because I had a few extra little flowers we added those to the tables as well.
Favours
For the favours, I picked up some of the Bath & Body Works hand sanitizers with a flamingo on the front. Added them to a cello bag with a bit of paper shred. Then printed off a tag and stamped it using the retired Timeless Tropical stamp set.
The Food
What began as a light snack ended up pretty much a full on lunch. The menu consisted of individual charcuterie cups; ham & pineapple and a few other types of sandwiches; donuts; fruit kabobs; cookies; cake and macarons.
Because the shower was only a couple weeks from the wedding, we really wanted to try to keep everyone healthy. Instead of having a tray of meats, cheeses, crackers etc. we decided to do individual cups with everything in it. They looked so amazing!
My friend had just started decorating cookies so I asked her to make some fun cookies in our theme. She did such a great job! If you are local to the Edmonton, Sherwood Park area, you should definitely check her out. She’s Made with Love Cookie Creations on Facebook.
And then there was a cake done up by Cake Affair in Spruce Grove.
The photo just doesn’t do this cake justice. It was so pretty!
Here’s a photo of my beautiful daughter on the day of the shower and then with her bridesmaids.
I hope you enjoyed a little peek at the shower. It was such a fun way to shower her with less than three weeks (at the time) to the big day.
Until next time,
