I love scrapbooking with a card kit. It’s so fun to challenge myself to get creative with the contents when they are meant to be used to create cards. The biggest challenge is always that the pattern paper tends to be only as large as a card base. Regardless of that, there are still lots of creative ways to put the contents to use on a layout.
As soon as I saw the Maritime Moments card kit from Stampin’ Up!®, I knew it would make a great scrapbook layout. So I started by creating the cards as they are intended. I always start with this because it allows me to familiarize myself with the contents of the kit. Here are the three cards that it makes.
The printed imagery on the pieces is really stunning.
Let’s take a look at the layout…
When you scrapbook with a card kit, one of the obvious products you’ll need to add in extra card stock to use as your base. I pulled in two sheets of 12″ x 12″ pool party two-toned card stock, a bit of white, night of navy and vellum. Otherwise all the other pieces came from the kit.
The card bases were cut into 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ squares. The same size as the white pieces which is where my photos will go. I’m hoping I’ll get some photos from our upcoming trip to Greece to add to this layout.
To simplify the process, I will usually repeat some of the steps from making the cards on my layouts. For example, I stamped the images on the smaller 3-1/2″ squares just like I did on the cards shown above.
To repeat the circle shape from the left page, I die cut a couple stylish shapes circles to add to the right. And I also used the negative space from the die cut pieces to add some paper piercing details here and there.
I never throw anything away until I’m done because you never know when these pieces can come in handy!
To add a bit of interest to the background, I also stamped one of the images from the exclusive stamp set that comes in the kit.
TIP: don’t discount the use of shapes that have words printed on them. You can often find ways to cover the printing. The two flags at the bottom left, both have words but I tucked them up high enough that you can’t see the words. It’s a great way to add a pop of colour.
