Welcome to the Scrapbooking Global December 2022 blog hop. Thank you so much for joining us. This months theme is non traditional Christmas using the 2022-2024 In Colours. I can’t wait to see what everyone created!
As part of the Scrapbooking Global design team we participate in a monthly blog hop and challenges but anyone can join in if they’d like. We’d love to have you join us! Be sure to join the Scrapbooking Global – Stampin’ Up! Facebook Group so you know when the sign up starts for our next hop.
I don’t have any holiday photos left to scrapbook and have all my layouts done and ready for this years photos so I looked at my scrapbook layout to do list and noticed I needed a Christmas themed ‘filler’ for one of my albums. When I have gaps in my albums – a blank page where I don’t have any photos – I call them fillers. To fill in these gaps I like to create scrapbook layouts without photos or samplers to tuck in. This empty spot happened to be the back side of a pocket page which is a bit trickier to fill but I think I came up with a great filler!
You can see another pocket page filler that I recently created in this post and one from a few years ago here.
For todays layout, I was inspired by a layout I saw on Instagram by @tachita55. She created a tree using scallop circles. I knew that would be a perfect idea for my filler.
The Details…
I started by creating my background.
Parakeet party ink was used, along with the packaging technique, to add a bit of colour to a 12″ x 12″ piece of white card stock.
Then I cut apart on of our Stars Treat Bags so that I could use it as a stencil to add another layer. I used parakeet party for this but my blending brush must have had some old olive left on it so it turned out a bit more olive than parakeet. It all works out in the end though.
The last step for the background was to cut it apart in the same configuration as the pocket page it needs to fit into. Then I slid all these pieces into the pockets and got to work – outside the pocket.
Here’s the result…
I absolutely love how it turned out! A combination of in colour glimmer paper and dsp was used to fill in all the white scalloped circles except for a couple. I wanted to add a bit of texture to a couple circles so I embossed them with one of the Wintry embossing folders.
The greetings all came from the Framed & Festive stamp set and were fussy cut for added interest. And then I added some die cut leaves from the Holly Berry Dies (so sad these are retiring!).
I noticed afterwards that the challenge said to use ALL of the in colours. I ended up using all but Orchid Oasis. What I should have done was use Orchid twine and then the layout would have included all 5 colours. But 4 out of 5 is good right?!
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone else’s take on a non traditional coloured Christmas layout! Head on over to Cheryl Taylor’s blog to see what she created.
