How to Create a Simple Pocket Folio

In today’s post I’m sharing how to create a simple pocket folio. These are easy & practical, made using products in your stash. So far I’ve made two, one to hold photos for upcoming projects and another to hold supplies for my book journal.

In order to make this folio you need some pattern paper. I used 5 sheets of 12″ x 12″ double sided pattern paper. You can use 6×6, 8×8, 10×10 and any number of sheets. It just depends on how many pockets you want.

The first step is to determine how deep you want your pocket to be. I made mine 3-3/4″ but yours could be deeper or not as deep. Whatever you decide, you want to score the same measurement from the bottom on all your layers. I scored at 3-3/4″ from the bottom on all 5 sheets. Then you’ll score each sheet down the middle – so at 6″ for a 12×12 piece of pattern paper.

Fold the top up and then fold like a book. Add adhesive to the left, right and centre of the pockets. Once all the pockets have been folded and sealed, it’s time to assemble. Before assembling, make sure you are happy with the order that your pages are in. Then add adhesive to the top of the second booklet, leaving about 3/4″ from the score line free of adhesive. Adhere it to the back of the first booklet, ensuring the pages are lined up. Then repeat with each of the booklets.

To finish off the spine of the folio, I used lace and fabric from my stash. If you don’t have these, you can use pattern paper. I do find that the folio is much more flexible with fabric than with paper though.

Reading Journal Folio

 

To create this reading themed pocket folio, I used pattern papers from a few different paper packs – Everyday Happiness, Hobby Haven and Lovely Blossoms (to be released in January of 2026). All the ephemera used to embellish the folio is from the Hobby Haven paper pack.

I’ve tucked in stickers, page flags, sticky notes and a few other odds & ends that I use, or may use, when working in my reading journal.

Many of these things were gifted to me. I’m so lucky to have friends who love to share their fun finds!

These are fun themed page flags that are perfect for annotating books! Which is something I haven’t yet tried but think I will have to give it a try.

Camera Themed Folio

I really love how this one turned out and it was created using random things from my stash! In it I keep some photos that I need to document.

I went with more of a vintage feel for this one.

I still want to add a little notebook to this folio so I can make note of the projects the photos are for. I’ll share that when I get around to putting it together. My plan is to just use scraps to create it.
