Today I’m sharing 2 card layouts that you can use over & over with different supplies and the cards will look completely different. The design process is always the step that takes the longest so if this step can be simplified by having a few go to card layouts, you can easily whip up cards when needed. In this post, I’ll be sharing two of those simple go to layouts.
Layout 1
This first layout consists of a strip towards the bottom and a focal point. It can be as simple as that or you can step it up by adding layers, dimension and texture.
The sketch is just meant to be a starting point. You can see from this first sample, I added an embossed layer, an additional strip, some twine and extended the focal point by adding the clouds. However, you can tell that it was inspired by the sketch.
If you’d like to recreate this card, here are the measurements:
- Basic Beige: 4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/2″ ; 4″ x 5-1/4″ embossed with the Exposed Brick EF
- Basic White: 4″ x 5-1/4″ (inside); 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ for stamping
- Country Lace DSP: 1-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ ; 5/8″ x 4-1/4″ (x2) one for inside the card
- Basic Beige Ribbon: about 10″ separated for the threads (I explain how to do this in the video below)
- Textured Dots: x2
Here’s another sample of the sketch, this time using pattern paper.
For the third sample, I created a landscape card and added my focal point to the left side of the card instead of the right. As you can see, all three cards were inspired by the same sketch but they all look completely different.
Layout 2
For the second sketch we have a bit of a larger focal point with more layers.
My first sample was created as a landscape card and instead of using a circle for my larger layer, I used a heart. I think it’s a given that I had to add some ribbon, twine and embellishments to finish it off.
Here are the measurements if you’d like to recreate this card:
- Thick Basic White: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
- Basic White: 4″ x 5-1/4″; 2-3/4″ x 4-1/4″
- Country Lace DSP: 3-3/4″ x 3-3/4″
- Ribbon: 6-1/2″
- Twine: 12″
- Textured Dots: x3
And for the second sample I didn’t stray too far from the sketch.
I shared the two humble home cards and a few additional samples of these card sketches in the video below.
