Today I’m sharing 10 tips for mass producing handmade cards. Whether you are making 10 or 100, these tips will come in handy. These tips can be used if you sell your cards at craft sales, get asked to make invitations, or if you just want to stock up on the cards in your stash.
I’ve filmed a video walking you through the tips. You can find it linked below.

10 Tips for Mass Producing Cards
- Choose a simple design – one that looks good but is easy to reproduce.
- Make one card first just to make sure that it’s easy to make. This will help iron out the kinks and ensure the card is in fact simple and doesn’t include too many time consuming steps.
- Limit your supplies. This goes back to keeping it simple.
- Maximize your supplies. For example, if you are using 12 x 12 pattern paper – consider cutting it down to 3″ x 4″; 4″ x 4″; 2″ x 4″ etc. Something that is easily divided into 12″. This will allow you full use of the dsp and no waste. You can see an example of this in the video when I take the 6″ x 8″ embossed layer and decide to cut it down to 3″ x 4″ pieces.
- Avoid difficult measurements. Forget the 1/16″ or even 1/8″ measurements when you are mass producing – if you can.
- Use pre-cut and scored card bases to save time. Whether you decide to use Stampin’ Up!’x® notecards & envelopes or if you keep a stack of cut & scored card bases on hand ready to go for when you need them. Tip: cut & score an entire package, or half package, of the colours you use most often.
- Reuse layouts & designs you’ve used before. This saves you time having to design a card.
- Work in batches. Do all the cutting, then the stamping, then die cutting or embossing instead of working on one card at a time.
- Invest in tools that save time – like a die cutting machine, stamping platform and paper trimmer.
- Keep your tools & space organized so that you don’t waste time looking for your supplies.
