For day 10 of the 12 days of Holiday Tags, Bags & Gift Packaging series I’m sharing a repurposed gift packaging idea. Actually a few of them if you check out the video at the bottom of the post.
I’m big on reusing anything I can – especially if there’s a quick & easy way to make it pretty! Boxes and paper bags are often great for this! Not only do I like to reuse items but if I’m going to beautify it, I want it to be able to be reused by the receiver.
Whenever I receive a package or a gift, I look at how it’s packaged. If it’s in a box – is it a sturdy box? Is there any printing or patterns on it? Can it be easily recovered? Is there paper shred, or tissue paper, inside that can be reused?
I love that my son-in-law to be has realized I do this. When he asked his groomsmen to be part of his wedding, he had purchased a few things that came in boxes but decided to repackage them. He saved the boxes for me thinking that I might be able to use them:)
The two projects I’m sharing today are some of those boxes. The first one originally held a passport holder. It’s the perfect size for a more dimensional card or for a little paper shred and then a gift card.
I can’t remember what was in this second box but it’s a little larger than one of our Paper Pumpkin boxes. It was the perfect size to hold one of my Mom’s Christmas gifts and I didn’t want to wrap it with gift wrap and have that end up going in the garbage so thought this would be a great way to get the most use out of the box. She can simply slide off the belly band to open it. Then remove the little tag and reuse the box next year!
Another Repurposed Gift Packaging Idea
Whenever I can, I also like to shop small local businesses. Now many of them use brown bags for purchases. Sometimes those bags have stamped or printed images on them. However, these can easily covered with handmade cards that I’ve received or swaps. I shared this idea last year in this blog post.
Be sure to check out the video below to see some examples of how I reuse these bags.
Have a creative day!
