Good morning! I’ve got lots to share with you today. This past weekend was my first ever local creative retreat and we had so much fun! So much so, I’m already starting to plan the next one which will be May 5th to 7th. Registration is already open – if you’d like to attend, let me know. Later in this post I have a bit of a recap of the weekend. But first I want to share a bit about the layout I’m sharing today.
This photo is my all time favorite photo of my daughter ever. It was right after her first hair cut and she just has the sweetest look on her face. And those cheeks and eyes just melt my heart! I was inspired by a layout I saw on Instagram. I loved the idea of cutting out some of the flowers from the Inside the Lines dsp and using them, uncolored, as a border. So I mimicked that idea to create this layout.
All I did to create the layout was cut a piece of dsp 8″x12″ (this sheet is from the Party Animal pack in the Occasions Catalogue) and added it to the bottom of a 12×12 white cardstock. Then I cut out a few flowers from the floral patterned paper in the Inside the Lines dsp pack and added them along the seam. I added a 4×4 photo, mated with white cardstock. Half a circle is peaking out from below the photo and another strip of patterned paper at the top of the layout just to add a bit more color. Simple and I love how it turned out!
I managed to get a few layouts done at this weekends retreat, more than anticipated – it was great. We had such a wonderful time, I can’t wait for the next one. It really felt like we were eating all weekend, the food was fabulous. I tried 5 new recipes over the course of the weekend and all of them are ‘do overs’ – that’s what we call great recipes in our house. Darlene commented on Saturday night that she’s coming to the next retreat just for the food. LOL.
Although the food was great, we did manage to get in a lot of crafting time as well. Sheena mentioned that packing was so much easier for this retreat because she didn’t have to stress over what to bring. She knew she was going back home at the end of the day and could just bring what she needed the next day. And she loved that she could sleep in her own bed.
