How to Make a Trifold Card

In today’s post I’m sharing how to make a trifold card. This versatile project can be used as a card (it’s about slimline size), on a scrapbook layout to hold memorabilia and/or extra photos, or in a junk journal.

Want to make one along with me? Grab the following supplies from your stash and catch the replay to craft along with me.

• DSP: 12″ x 8″ (if the paper is directional the 12″ measurement is from left to right)
• Neutral CS: 3-1/4″ x 7″ ; 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ for stamping; 2-3/4″ x 4-3/4″ and 3/4″ x 4″
• Coordinating CS: 1″ x 4″ cut with a border punch/die
• Coordinating ribbon, twine and embellishments
• A bundle with a large image – I’m using the Beautiful Butterflies bundle (on the last chance list)
• Eyelet (if you still have them) and a hand held hole punch and eyelet setter
• Inks to coordinate and a blending brush if you want to add ink around the edges of your project
• Paper trimmer and adhesives

Trifold Butterfly Card

To create the base of this project, you simply score your pattern paper at 4″ and 8″ along the 12″ length. Then you’ll cut, at a diagonal, from the second score line to about 2″ from the bottom of the front piece. The leftover piece is cut apart to create the pockets. It makes more sense when you watch the video:). Once the base is done it’s just a matter of decorating it.

I love how the big, bold butterfly is peeking out the top of this card. The white strip across the front is meant to be for a greeting but I chose to leave it blank. I haven’t decided if I’m going to use this as a card or in one of my journals. Once I decide I can add an appropriate sentiment, or greeting.

For the second sample I’m sharing I combined some pattern paper from my stash, long retired ribbon and a brand new bundle to be released in March of 2026.

 

This would be perfect for adding extra photos, or journaling to a layout. I plan on tucking this one into a travel themed journal I’m working on.

This is a great project for combining something new with items from your stash. So here’s a challenge for you. Pull out a stamp set or bundle that you haven’t used yet (it might be new or something you’ve had for awhile), then dig into your stash for a piece of long forgotten pattern paper, some coordinating ribbon and embellishments and give this project a try!
