Today’s scrapbooking tip is an important one that can hold you back – don’t compare yourself to others. Often times we’ll find these stunning layouts on Pinterest, created by talented scrapbookers but need to remember that for some of them, this is their full time jobs. Some of them even design their own product lines. We can’t let that hold us back!
It’s time to stop comparing ourselves to others! I always used to compare myself to others until I realized that I wasn’t accomplishing anything. I’d spend hours on a page and, in the end, not be happy with it. Until one day I realized that I wouldn’t be around forever and that it was important to me to document our stories so that my kids and grandkids could see, or remember, what life was like. My family is not on Pinterest looking at scrapbook layouts and comparing my work to what they see – why should I?!
Instead of comparing myself to those talented scrapbookers, I started learning from them. I asked myself this question…
What do I like about this page or project?
- Was it the project itself – like a mini album, layout or artwork?
- Was it a cut file they used?
- Did they include a cool technique?
- Maybe it was the collection of products they used?
- Or the positioning of the photos and/or embellishments?
Once I could narrow down what I liked about that project, I tried to incorporate what I saw but with my own twist. That’s when I started to REALLY enjoy scrapbooking and what I was creating. Plus I was getting more done!
Everyone has a different style. So I encourage you to learn from those you admire and try to incorporate that into your own style of memory keeping. Stop comparing yourself and start documenting those stories! Your family will thank you for it and so will you!
Today’s inspiration…
For today’s layout I’m documenting my daughters 8th family birthday celebration. Well some of the photos. I used the Above the Clouds bundle because the images and sayings in the set are perfectly suited to these photos. If you like this set, be sure to check out this months Heartfelt Card Kit To Go!
The navy patterned paper is a little peek at some paper to be released on September 4th. It’s part of the Brightly Gleaming Specialty DSP. This paper pack is not just for the holidays, there are so many fabulous patterns that can be used for any occasion! It’s quickly becoming a favourite.
Have a creative weekend!
