DIY Happy Mail Packaging Ideas

Today I’m sharing a few DIY happy mail packaging ideas. These are simple ways that you can make a small package feel extra special using products from your stash. Although I’m sharing how they can be used for happy mail, they can also be used in junk journals or as gift card holders.

Butterfly Pocket

For this first project, I was inspired by one that Natasa from Treasure Books shared. I simply adjusted mine to make it work for the supplies I chose to use. The finished size for this package is 5″ x 9″ so it’s pretty large.

Fo all the projects I’m sharing today, I’ve used the Painted Illusions DSP from Stampin’ Up!. It’s the March 2026 product of the month that you can get for just $5 with a $100 purchase. However, these projects can be created using any pattern paper in your stash.

Measurements:

• Pattern Paper: 5″ x 12″ – scored at 3″; 5″ x 9-1/4″ scored at 1/4″; save leftover pieces to be used as pockets.
• Neutral Card Stock: 3-3/4″ x 7-1/2″ – large tag; 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ for stamping; scraps for additional tags.

For the closure, I used magnets purchased here. When you open the top flap this is what you see. There’s a pocket with a large tag.

Then you open it further and there are two smaller pockets.

I just tucked in some tags and ephemera pieces but the pockets could also hold photos or gift cards.

Floral Pocket

This second pocket follows the same pattern for the base but it’s smaller and I omitted the pocket on the outside. It measures 4″ x 8″. This will fit into a #10 envelope which is handy.

Measurements:

• Pattern Paper: 4″ x 10″ scored at 2″; 4″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 1/2″ and two pieces that measure 3-3/4″ x 2″ for the inside pockets.
• Vellum: 2-3/4″ x 4″ for die cutting circles
• Basic White: 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ for stamping
• Bits & pieces to stuff pockets

Envelope Pocket

I have rediscovered my envelope punch board. This is such a handy tool. It was something Stampin’ Up! carried years ago but you may be able to find a We R Memory Keepers version.

I started with a 9-1/4″ x 9-1/4″ piece of pattern paper and created the envelope for a 5-1/2″ x 6″ card. A magnet was used for the closure and I added a belly band to the inside instead of a pocket.

Inside is a note card and envelope and a package of embellishments.
