If you’re looking to do some last minute Christmas crafting, I’m sharing these simple DIY Christmas ornaments. The base of these ornaments are some inexpensive wooden ornaments that I picked up at Dollarama. They were leftover prizes for a game we played at our team meeting earlier this month.
This is how they come, although there are several of each ornament style in the package.
The first thing I wanted to do was colour them. These could be painted but I was pressed for time and wanted to use what was handy so I used a gold Wink of Stella for some and a mossy meadow Stampin’ Blend (alcohol based marker) for the others.
The Stampin’ Blends work really well, although they are a bit hard on the tips of the markers. To embellish this version I used the fabulous deer dies from the Reindeer Fun dies. Because this version is a bit more rustic, I stuck with using the jutte that came with the ornament.
Aren’t they cute?!
For the next one I wanted something a bit more traditional and simply added an embossed greeting to the front. With the gold Wink of Stella and gold embossed greeting, I felt like the jute needed to be replaced with some ribbon to give it a fancier feel. If you don’t have a gold Wink of Stella, you could use a gold marker or gold paint.
Step-by-Step
- Remove the twine.
- Colour or paint the ornament. I only coloured the one side but you could do both sides.
- Die cut a circle for your focal point. I used the 2nd smallest circle from the Stylish Shapes dies but a circle punch will work too. I cut an extra for each ornament for the back. This will allow you to either stamp a sentiment or write a brief message.
- Stamp or die cut your focal point and add it to the ornament. I used multipurpose glue and dimensionals.
- Add the twine or ribbon back through.
These came together so quickly and are definitely inexpensive. They could also serve two purposes – you could use them as a gift tag and then the receiver can then use as an ornament.
I hope you enjoyed these DIY Christmas ornaments.
Until next time,
