Today I’m sharing a first look at the snow day scrapbooking workshop kit. I filmed a video sharing the contents of the kit, cutting the pieces and assembling one of the two page layouts. My plan is to to follow this video up with 3 more videos. 1 video for each of the other two layouts and then one where I share what I’m doing with the leftover pieces. If you aren’t familiar with the Close to My Heart workshop kits, you might find this helpful.
I’m going to be honest here – I was super excited about these kits more for all of you than for me. I was excited to more easily be able to offer scrapbooking related events. What I wasn’t sure about was how much I would enjoy these kits. The layouts are not my usual style of scrapbooking so I had my doubts that I would be able to complete the kits without making a bunch of changes. I love the whole design process behind scrapbooking so I’m ok with making changes to make the layouts more me.
It’s still early on in the creative process, but what surprised me was how much I loved this first layout. At the time of writing this blog post, I haven’t completed the other two so I can’t comment on those. I chose today’s layout as the first one because I knew it would be the one I made fewer changes to:)
So let’s get into specifics…
The Kit Contents
The kit itself is almost all inclusive, which makes it so easy to create three 2-page 12×12 layouts. You get the card stock, the pattern paper (some of which are exclusive to the workshop kit), a sticker sheet, photo place holders and some fabulous instructions that include everything from photos, measurements, a cutting guide and the number, size and orientation for your photos.
The only additional supplies you’ll need for this kit are:
- paper trimmer
- adhesive
- pool party ink
- blending brush
And the bottom two are optional. Each of our workshop kits include a different technique – that’s where the additional supplies come in. If you don’t want to do the technique, you don’t need those additional supplies.
The contents of each of our kits is slightly different. Some may include a die cut sheet, as well as a sticker sheet and others even include more. I chose to start with this one because it seemed like the easiest and is the lowest price point at just $34 here in Canada.
Here’s a look at the first layout I created. All the consumable pieces are included in the kit. I did make a few changes to the layout but they are minor. You can see how I changed it in the video linked below.
Coordinating Products
These workshop kits are PERFECT for new scrapbookers, scrapbookers who don’t have a lot of time or space for scrapbooking or for seasoned scrapbookers. If you’re like me and like to add all the things to your layouts then check out some of the coordinating products that allow you to keep on creating or step up your projects.
Click on any of these products to find out more information or to shop my Canadian online store. This is just a small selection of items that coordinate with this fun workshop kit.
I plan on using a few of these products on some of my future projects using this kit. But again, they are not needed to create beautiful pages!
In the video linked below, I share tips & tricks as I work through the cutting guide and assembling the layout. The instructions, cutting guide and photos are amazing. Although I had purchased CTMH products in the past, I had never purchased a workshop kit. This was my first time working through one and it was quick & easy to do.

My Thoughts…
Overall I am super happy with what SU! has released and I know that the kits will just keep getting better and better. These kits are the perfect way to document some of your favourite stories to pass down to future generations. We think we’ll never forget but it’s amazing how quickly we do. Our stories need to be told/recorded and these kits are a simple way to give them a place to live on.
If you are interested in meeting monthly to begin, or continue your documenting journey, be sure to check out the first in a series of 12 classes that I’ll be offering focused on working through the workshop kits. No commitment required. You can pick & choose which classes you’d like to attend (in person or virtually). But imagine if you do all 12 – you’d have at least 36 2-page layouts of stories documented!
Until next time,
