Last Minute Gift Idea

In this blog post I’m sharing a quick & easy last minute gift idea – two actually! These are projects that you can make with things you already have on hand and can also be used as gift packaging.

The first is a card box. This version of a card box was shared by Kevin Estey at our last team meeting and I believe he found the idea online. So the idea is not mine. However, I did tweak it a bit to make it work for the sticky notes. We’ll get to that in a bit.

Card Box

This simple card box was created from one 8-1/2″ x 11″ piece of thick basic white card stock. It’s simple and can be used to gift a set of matching cards, a pair of socks, sweet treat or anything else that will fit. I managed to fit all 7 cards I created in this one sheet wonder video. They fit but it was a bit snug. I would say it comfortably fits 5 cards and envelopes.

I’ll include the measurements below, but if you watch the video, it’s easier to see how it all comes together.

Measurements:

• Thick Basic White: 8-1/2″ x 11″ scored along the long side at 1″, 7″ and 8″; scored along the short side at 1″ and 2″ from both ends. Then you need to do some trimming. Watch the video for that.
• Basic White: scrap for greeting
• Pattern Paper: 4-1/4″ x 5-3/4″ and 4-1/4″ x 2-3/4″
• Ribbon: about 16″

Sticky Note Holder

Note everyone uses handmade cards so I thought this idea would be perfect on a desk holding a 4×6 sticky note and pen. So I tweaked the measurements above to make it work.

Measurements:

• Thick Basic White: 7-1/4″ x 11″ score the long edge at 3/4″ , 7″ and 7-3/4″ and the short edge at 3/4″ and 1-1/2″ from both ends.
• Basic White: scrap for greeting
• Pattern Paper: 4″ x 6″ and 4″ x 3″
• Ribbon: about 16″
