For this weeks memory keeping Monday post I’ve got a fun from sketch to layout to share with you. I took one of the sketches from page 22 of the annual Stampin’ Up! catalogue and turned it into 3 different projects.
Sketches are a great way to jump start your creativity. I love using sketches, especially when I scrapbook. They are such a great starting point. I also love that the end result sometimes looks like the sketch, and sometimes ends up completely different.
This is the sketch I chose. It’s a simple sketch with focal point and greeting strip.
For the first sample I stuck pretty closely to the sketch but added a few layers that don’t appear in the sketch. This is a great way to step up a sketch.
Measurements:
- Thick Basic White: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
- Basic Black: 4″ x 5-1/4″
- Basic White: 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″ and scrap for greeting
- Full of Life DSP: 3-1/4″ x 3-1/4″ cut with the largest Stylish Shapes circle
- White Twine: 8″
- Iridescent Faceted Gems: x3
The second card also follows the sketch, however, I made even more adjustments. I changed it from a portrait to a landscape card; the circle was changed to a heart and I added some ribbon under the twine.

The Layout…
Then I decided to use the sketch to create a layout. You can see that it follows the same design it’s just that additional elements were added like photos and a title.
The circle was created by tracing a paper plate and then going around it freehand with a black marker. Scraps of pattern paper were used to mimic the strip going across and then I added two 3″ x 4″ photos. Then it was just a matter of adding a bit more colour, accents and a title to fill in some of the space.
I hope that this from sketch to layout encourages you to play around with the card templates found on page 22 of the catalogue.
Until next time,
