I have an 8-card one sheet wonder to share with you today. This one is focused around those cut apart pattern papers that you may have in your stash. If you don’t have any of these types of patten papers, you can cut a regular pattern paper the same way I do and use the cards I share as inspiration. But I encourage you to dig through your stash, if you’ve been paper crafting for awhile, you likely have a cut apart piece that you can use.
I’m using a piece of pattern paper from the Cute as a Bug paper pack from Stampin’ Up! and when cut apart it gives me 9 pieces. Three that are 6″ x 4″ and 6 that measure 3″ x 4″. However, I encourage you to use what you have in your stash. In the video I share below, I share another set of cards I created using a graduation themed cut apart sheet from 2018.
Additional Supplies
In addition to your pattern paper and a paper trimmer, you’ll need the following:
- Card bases (x8): I used thick white card stock cut down to 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
- Coordinating card stock: this will be cut down to use as mats
- Neutral card stock: scraps for your greetings. I used white.
- Coordinating ribbon, twine and embellishments – dig through your stash for these. This is a great opportunity to use up some things you’ve had forever.
- Stamps, dies, punches and inks
6″ x 4″ Pieces
I’m sharing three ways you can use the 6″ x 4″ pieces to create standard sized (5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″) cards. For the first card (top left), I cut the piece down to 5-1/4″ x 4″ and used the 3/4″ piece on the inside. To show you how simple these can be to whip up, I simply stamped a greeting and added it to the lower right corner of the card with a bit of twine underneath.
To add give the card a bit more texture I ink blended around the edges with pecan pie and also used my scissors to add a bit of distressing. You could replicate this same process with the other three pieces but I decided to step them up a bit.
There are two additions to this card – a fussy cut bug from another piece of pattern paper and some embellishments. You can replace the fussy cut image with a stamped, or die cut image. Adding the twine and embellishments really elevates the card.
For the third card, I cut the card into four 1-1/8″ x 4″ strips, inked around the edges and added them to the card front. There ended up being a bit of a wider border on the left and right so I added in the 1/4″ x 4″ strips of mossy meadow card stock. This frames the image nicely. To step it up a tied some twine around a small piece of ribbon and added that with some embellishments.
All three of these could be replicated using any pattern paper. It doesn’t have to be a pattern piece with a scene on it.
3″ x 4″ Pieces
The rest of the cards were all created using the 3″ x 4″ pieces.
Just like with the 6″ x 4″ pieces, I started off simple. I added a mossy meadow mat (3-1/8″ x 4-1/8″), a greeting and some ribbon wrapped with twine.
The next card is stepped up a little with the popped up butterfly. You can’t tell from the photo but the butterflies wings have a bit of shimmer. I coloured them with a clear wink of Stella brush. Just adding that extra little piece and repositioning the ribbon, gives the card a different look.
The third card is similar to the second with the fussy cut accents and ribbon but for this one I added in some embellishments.
If you are using pattern paper that doesn’t have a scene on it, or is a bit on the busy side, a great way to ground your focal point is to add a punched (or die cut) shape behind it. That’s what I did for this next card. I used a 2-1/2″ circle punch. And instead of using the ribbon like I have for most of the other cards, I ran it across the dsp and tucked it behind. Then cinched it off with a piece of twine tied in a bow.
I really liked how the last two pieces looked together so I decided to use both of them on my card. I cut the plaid pattern down to 2-1/2″ x 4″ (the smaller piece was used inside the card) and then covered the seam of the two pieces with that pretty scallop ribbon.
You may have noticed that my greetings are all pretty generic and that’s so that I can use them for anything that I need. If I want to turn them into thank you cards, or birthday card, I can easily do that by stamping an appropriate greeting inside. I love having these types of cards on hand.
I hope you enjoyed this cut apart one sheet wonder! If you did, check out this fun creative challenge I have for you.
