Today I’m sharing several cards all featuring different watercolor pencil techniques. Watercolor pencils are such a fun way to add colour but I must admit I often forget about them. They really can create some beautiful backgrounds and are really easy to colour with.
You can achieve so many different looks with these versatile pencils. It helps to know what your options are! I decided to do a quick Facebook live showing you just some of the ways that you can use them.
Here’s a closer look at the projects
In this first card, I used the pencils to create a beautifully blended background with three different colours. I simply coloured onto a piece of watercolour paper with the pencils and then used a water painter to blend them. Using the water painter really helps to soften the pencil lines.
On the second card, I coloured in the sunflower using the pencils. BUT instead of colouring right onto the paper with the pencils, I pulled the colour from the tip of the pencil with my water painter and then coloured onto the paper with it. This gives a nice vibrant colour. You can also layer on various colours as I did in the video.
The third card features a fun technique using a wide water painter (or paint brush). Simply colour two different colours of watercolour pencils onto the water painter and paint it onto your watercolour paper or shimmery white paper.
The last card showcases a technique called Black Magic. Stamp your images onto black card stock using whisper white craft ink. If they are line art images (not solid), colour them in lightly with a white watercolour pencil and then colour over the images with the coloured pencils.
There’s so much fun to be had with watercolour pencils I really need to pull them out more often! Thanks so much for visiting, if there are any supplies you’d like to order, visit my online store.
Have a creative weekend!
