In today’s post (with video) I’m sharing several vellum card making tips & tricks. I cover everything from how to adhere it, ways to use it and even a few techniques to create a fun look.
The video goes into an extensive look at vellum and ways to use it, along with several other project ideas that aren’t shown in the blog post.
What Adhesive to Use
One of the things you need to consider when working with vellum is how you will adhere it. Most adhesives show through vellum. However if you plan your project, you can strategically place your adhesive under your focal point. In the video I share different types of adhesive and how they look on light and dark card stock.
There is specific adhesive that you can purchase that is made for adhering vellum but why purchase another adhesive when there are creative ways to use the adhesive you already own. In this first example, I adhered the embossed vellum under where my greeting sits. The rest of the vellum is just loose but there’s enough adhesive in the one area to hold it in place.
Stained Glass Technique
Use your vellum to create the look of stained glass. To create the card below, I stamped the image with versa mark on a piece of vellum and then heat embossed it with black embossing powder. If you don’t have black powder you can always just stamp with Staz On ink.
After embossing the image, I flipped it over and coloured the backside of the image with Stampin’ Blends. It works best with darker colours, the lighter colours don’t show up much.
How to Create Ombre Vellum
It’s hard to tell from this next photo but I used our sponge brayers to create an ombre look on the vellum. I started with a 3″ x 4″ piece of vellum and then added some seaside spray ink using the brayer over half of the vellum. Then, starting from the other end, I added some misty moonlight ink ensuring is started dark and gradually got lighter as I went down the piece of vellum. Sponge brayers are the perfect application tool for adding ink to paper/vellum.
Not only do we carry good quality vellum card stock, but we also have these beautiful square vellum doilies. They are the perfect subtle addition to your projects. AND I’m giving away a package of vellum to everyone who orders $50 or more from me (before shipping & taxes) between now and June 30th, 2020.
