You’ve heard me go on and on about how fabulous the Holiday Mini is. There are so many wonderful new products in there but my absolute favorite is the Shimmer Paint (page 27). It is available in three different colors – Champagne Mist, Frost White and Platinum. I have to admit that when I saw it I was curious but had absolutely no idea how to use it so it wasn’t on my first preorder. Once I saw a few techniques at Convention using it, I knew I had to have it and I have been since experimenting and have found a few more ways to use it.
I first tried tinting the shimmer paint after Lynne Scratch demo’d it at our We CAN Stamp convention. It really makes this product so very versatile. You can create any color shimmer paint to coordinate with any of your projects. All you need is the Frost White shimmer paint (116854) and an ink refill – I used the Bashful Blue classic ink refill here (105221).
1. First pour a small amount of Frost White shimmer paint into a small container. I like to use the empty embellisment containers. Then add just a drop of the desired ink refill. I suggest starting with one drop – you can always add more if you’d like it darker.

3. There are a few different ways to apply this and each one will give a slightly different look. For this project I applied the shimmer paint mixture using a paint brush to a piece of whisper white cardstock that had been run through the Big Shot using the Petals-A-Plenty embossing folder. By applying the mixture with a paint brush, you can easily get into the grooves. I wanted full coverage for this project so this method worked best.
Here’s what it looked like afterwards. The center of the cardstock will be covered over so I didn’t bother adding shimmer paint to it.
Another way to apply the mixture is with one of our finger daubers. Using this method the paint will be applied to the raise surfaces. This photo shows that look.
4. I then stamped a couple of the ornaments from Delightful Decorations (116517) onto whisper white cardstock, one with Chocolate Chip ink and the other with Bashful Blue. Then punched out the images using the ornament punch (116794) which SU! so kindly designed to save us from having to cut these out:)
5. I poked a hole in the brown ornament and inserted a rhinestone brad and then flipped it over. I cut a piece of silver elastic cord (109866) and stuck it to the back using dimensionals.
6. After doing the same with the other punched out image, I stuck them to a piece of Bashful Blue cardstock.
7. I ran a couple strips of snail along the back of the cardstock, folded over the elastic cord and then adhered that to a piece of chocolate chip cardstock cut slightly larger.
8. By now my shimmer paint is dry and I applied it to a piece of chocolate and then to a bashful blue A2 card.
9. My focal point was added to the centre and then I stamped very merry from the set Short & Sweet (115060) using chocolate chip ink. It was then punched out using the word window punch and mounted on a modern label punched piece of chocolate chip cardstock.
This really is a fabulous technique – so quick and easy and for only $8.95, a container of shimmer paint will last you a very long time. It is a great deal. I hope you give this technique a try. I would love to see what you create!
