Today I’m sharing a simple A2 card box tutorial using the Country Birdhouse bundle. This would be perfect combined with the cards we are making in the Country Birdhouse class to go! What a great gift idea for Mother’s Day, an upcoming birthday or even Christmas! It’s a nice size box that you could skip filling it with handmade cards – fill it with some of your favourite lotions or sweet treats. So many options.
After sharing this box & cards a few weeks ago, I received lots of requests to share a box that would fit A2 (4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″) cards. Today is the day!
Before we dive into the details and how to of the card box, I want to give credit to Theresa Brown on Youtube. It was her box that inspired me to create something similar.
This box will comfortably hold about 6 cards & envelopes. Maybe a few more or less depending on how embellished they are.
Measurements:
- Early Espresso (box base): 12″ x 12″ (see video for instructions) cut down to a 6″ x 12″; 3-3/4″ x 6″ and two 2-3/4″ x 5-1/4″ pieces. You’ll also need a 3-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ piece (not cut from the 12″ x 12″)
- Pattern Paper: 4-1/2″ x 5-3/4″ (x2); 1-1/2″ x 5-3/4″ and 1-3/4″ x 5-3/4″ – all 4 of these pieces should be in the same pattern (pool party pattern in my project); then you’ll need 1-1/2″ x 5-3/4″ and 1-3/4″ x 5-3/4″ in a coordinating pattern (light woodgrain inside the box). I also used a 3″ x 4″ scrap of the dark woodgrain for the roof and base of the birdhouse.
- Crumb Cake: 3-1/2″ x 4-1/4″
- Basic Beige: 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″
- Pool Party: 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″
- Basic White: scraps for stamping
- White Twine: about 8″
- Basic Gray Pearls: x3
- Magnets: x2 – I’ve linked to where I get my magnets in the supply list below
You can see me cut and assemble this box, in the video linked below.
Box Assembly
Now that you have all your pieces let’s do some scoring.
- Espresso 6″ x 12″ piece: score along the long side at 4-3/4″ , 6-1/2″ and 11-1/4″ – this is the base of the box
- Espresso 3-3/4″ x 6″ piece: score along the short end at 1-3/4″ – this will be the top flap
- Espresso 2-3/4″ x 5-1/4″ pieces: score at 1/2″ from both long ends and 1/2″ from one short end – these will be the sides. Cut out the little squares on the bottom of these pieces.
I’m not going to attempt to explain how to put the box together, it’s much easier to watch the video and do it along with me:)
If you are looking for card ideas for inside, be sure to sign up for the Country Birdhouse class to go. Deadline is May 8th. Find all the details here.
