Welcome to the Scrapbooking Global April 2024 blog hop. Thank you so much for joining us. This months our challenge was to use a sketch (shown below). I LOVE working from a sketch. It’s nice to have something to kick off your mojo.
As part of the Scrapbooking Global design team we participate in a monthly blog hop and challenges but anyone can join in if they’d like. We’d love to have you join us! Be sure to join the Scrapbooking Global – Stampin’ Up! Facebook Group so you know when the sign up starts for our next hop.
For my layout I chose to document some photos from a trip to Scotland that my Mom and I took last year. Specifically part of our Outlander tour that we did with Rachel Tessman and Jennifer Hill and their husbands. Unfortunately I didn’t get a good photo of the front of the house because they were setting up for an event and we shouldn’t even have been there but our tour guide James snuck us around back for some quick photos.
Let’s take a look…
The first thing you’ll notice when you compare the sketch and my finished layout is that I rotated it 1/4 turn to make it work with my photos. That’s one of the great things about sketches is that they are meant as a starting point. You can alter whatever you’d like.
I incorporated a bit of new product, current product and event some retired product on this layout. The new product is the mossy meadow dsp that I used as a mat. It’s from the Take to the Sky paper pack. And the leaf image is from the Spotlight on Nature stamp set. Both will be available once the catalogue goes live on May 1st.
The Background
On the sketch you’ll notice a lot going on behind the photos. I decided to keep it subtle but still add some layers of ink and texture.
I started by taking my smoky slate ink and swiping it across the background. This adds a bit of colour to the white layer but is subtle. Then I used one of the stamps from the Textured Timber stamp set and some leaves from the Spotlight on Nature set, to add a bit of interest. For a bit of added texture I used the exposed brick embossing folder to emboss a piece of smoky slate card stock. It didn’t feel quite right so I dragged my basic gray ink pad over top to make the embossed pattern pop a little more. After applying that to the white, I splattered with some black ink and distressed around the edges.
After adding my photos, it was time to add the title and embellish. I added a couple more stamped (and fussy cut) leaves, some linen thread and then some retired enamel dots that I coloured black so they’d match my layout.
I love the journaling lines from the Love this Moment stamp set so I added some of those to jot down my journaling and who was in the photo. Then added it to a black mat and then onto the layer of pattern paper.

Thank you Tania! Embossing folders are such a great way to add a little texture on a layout but I’m guilty of forgetting about them when I scrapbook!

I love your layout using this month’s sketch. I have never thought of using the ink pad to sweep across the card stock. Thank you for sharing.
