Now on to the fun stuff… I’m excited because today I’m part of my very first blog hop:) I was invited to participate by Christina Litschel. I met Christina at our fall conference back in September. She had registered with a friend for my Bittern Lake Retreat but I hadn’t yet met her so I was excited to meet her prior to the weekend. At the retreat she powered through Christmas cards and ended up making well over 100 cards! Amazing.
I love quick and easy projects and when you have to make a lot of something quick and easy makes sense. When we went to Phoenix a few weeks ago, I challenged myself to create a Christmas card using only the Tree Punch, two packages of note cards, a pkg of the under the tree specialty dsp, cherry cobbler twine, cherry cobbler ink and one greeting stamp. This is what I came up with…
The gold glimmer stars were leftovers from the Many Merry Stars kit and were added after I came home. It took a bit of time to come up with a design with so few supplies but once I did it came together so quickly and I finished 40 cards in a couple hours. Such a great feeling to have them done!
The dsp measures 3″ x 4-1/2″. I made it that size so I could get 10 cards out of one sheet. The flags with the greeting was cut from the scraps. I had a ton of stars left over but I’ll share what I made with those another day:)
So are you up for a challenge? Choose a small number of supplies (patterned paper pack, a package of note cards, a punch, one ink, one or two images/greetings and an embellishment) and challenge yourself to come up with a design using just those supplies – it’s a lot of fun! I’d love to see what you create! Post a link in the comments section, if you’d like to share.
I was asked to answer a few questions for the blog hop. So here we go…
1. What are you working on?
Right now I am working on some overdue swaps for a set sampler group that I swap with each month. I’m hoping to get them done and in the mail today – only 5 days late:{ I think there’s a few of us in the same boat though.
2. How does your work differ from others in your genre?
Hmmm… I don’t think my projects are really that much different to what you see out there. My style is more on the simple side, I’m not an over-the-top type crafter. I like quick, easy and beautiful. I’m a bit of a perfectionist with my projects though so sometimes what was meant to be quick & easy doesn’t turn out that way:)
3. Why do you create what you do?
For the most part, I create for classes and clubs. However, I do love to do Project Life and scrapbook and I make a point of doing my own thing at least once a month. This keeps the fun in what I’m doing and is also probably one of the reasons why I still love what I do, just as much, if not more, than I did when I became a demonstrator over 10 years ago.
4. How does your creative process work?
My creative process is a little different depending on what I’m working on. If I’m scrapbooking, I always start with a sketch. Then I pick my photos and the supplies I want to use (dsp, stamps, etc.). My layout may not always end looking anything like the sketch that inspired me but it serves as a starting point. If I stare at a blank piece of cardstock and a couple photos, I will be there for hours and not be very productive.
If I’m card making, I usually find inspiration from Pinterest or a blog. I try not to CASE a project exactly as is, I will try to add my own twist, whether it’s changing a stamp set or patterned paper or flipping the orientation. However, there are times when I fall in love with a project that I just have to copy exactly as I see it. And that’s what I love about Stampin’ Up! demonstrators, we are OK with that – we love to share and are happy when you copy:)
So I hope you enjoyed learning a little more about my crafting process. As part of the blog hop, I was asked to nominate two people. I nominate Christine Alward, one of the Treasure Stampers team members. We spent some time together at Convention a couple years ago and had a blast – such a fun person to be around!
And Donna Wizniuk, one of my talented sidelines. Donna is truly an inspiration, always willing to help out when she can. Both these talented ladies will be posting NEXT Monday (Dec. 8th). Can’t wait to see what they come up with!
Have a creative day!
Sherry
