I knew it would happen sooner or later – it’s gone around our household a couple times and I’ve managed to avoid it but I wasn’t so lucky this time around. I’m sick! Unfortunately, just like most moms, that doesn’t mean that I get to stay in bed all day or lay around watching tv like when everyone else gets sick. I still need to get the kids up, pack lunches, feed them breakfast, drive them to school, go pick up our handyman so that he can finish our bathrooms…. and that’s just what needs to be done before 9:30! I would love to just crawl back into bed but just too much to do.
Well you didn’t come here to listen to me whine about being sick and all that needs to get done. You came to see something pretty and that’s what I have for you today – a gorgeous holiday ornament made out of white paper bags! Isn’t it beautiful?! These little gems are so easy to make. We made this one from brown paper bags at one of my uplines events a month or so ago.
Here are the instructions on how to make it – I hope they are clear!
- You need 10 paper bags. The size doesn’t matter but they all need to be the same. The white one was made from bags about 3″x5″.
- Then you cut the top (opening side) of each bag into a ‘v’ shape or an upside down ‘v’. The white one was cut into a v and the brown an upside down v. If you look closely, you can see there is a difference in the finished look but not much. I found it easiest to create a template from cardstock and use it for each bag, that way they all line up perfectly. The key is to start at one corner and end at the other.
- Once all 10 bags are cut, make sure that they are all facing the same direction. If the bottom flap is up, make sure the flap is up on all the bags.
- Now add Tombow to the flap and up the centre of the bag and attach the next bag to it. Repeat until all 10 bags are attached. Let them sit until the Tombow has set.
- Add Tombow in the same way to the top bag and fan the bag out, attaching the top bag to the bottom bag. A couple binder clips work well to hold those in place while the glue sets.
- Cut a large snowflake from glimmer paper using the Snow Flurry die (127813).
- Punch out 3 scallop circles using the 1-1/4″ scallop circle punch (127811) using whatever dsp you’d like. Crumple them up and layer them. Add them to the centre of the snowflake.
- Feed some bakers twine through the largest vintage faceted button (127555) and add it to the centre of the scallop circles.
- Using hot glue, attach this to the centre of your ornament.
Here’s a close up of the centre:
These would look amazing hung from fishing line in a window (3 of them at varying heights). You can decorate both sides so that they are pretty from the outside and inside.
Hope this has inspired you to create some holiday decor for your home! Thanks so much for stopping by!
