Today I have a beautiful On the Horizon scrapbook layout to share with you. I was asked to present a scrapbook layout using the New Horizons suite at an event that my friend, and fellow demonstrator Alanna Wharf, held on the weekend.
I was so flattered when Alanna asked me to present. Although I do have to admit I was a bit stumped at first about how to do a 12×12 layout using this fabulous 6×6 New Horizons dsp. I really didn’t want to take anything away from the paper by covering it up.
The Background
My solution was to use the hexagon die from the Beautiful Shapes dies to cut up the patterned paper. It ended up keeping beautiful pattern in tact but creating a bit more visual interest for the background than a full 6″ x 6″ piece would have.
Here’s how I cut the dsp to make it work on my layout.
Then I chose a few of those hexagons to turn into a bit more of a focal point by adding the mountains and the grass. It felt like a few more hexagons were needed to finish off the background but when I added more dsp it seemed a bit heavy. So I decided to use one of them as a template and just traced around it in a couple spots. It was just what was needed.
The Journalling
For the journaling I wanted to create a bit of a pocket to hold the tag. I decided to use the two fence dies to create the pocket. I simply stuck both sides down and then added a few dimensional to the bottom of the fence posts so that the tag wouldn’t fall through. A bit of grass and a couple of the flourishing flowers finishes off this little cluster.
If you’re looking for more inspiration using this New Horizons suite of products you can find a couple cards I shared here.
Have a creative day!
