In this post, I’m sharing how I plan on tackling my unfinished projects in 2026. I recently did a craft room clean up and realized that I would have a LOT more room in my craft closet if I completed some of the unfinished projects. It would actually free up an entire shelf & a half! That’s a lot of realty in a craft room.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how was I going to accomplish this. I’ve set this goal in previous years and always start strong but then loose motivation. So I decided to tackle it a bit differently. I will be combining it with another of my 2026 goals – using products from my stash. I’m calling it my stash busting goal. I think I could accomplish a lot by combining these two goals and a side perk will be freeing up some space in my craft room. Which sounds AMAZING!
Here’s how I plan on working towards achieving this goal:
- The first thing I did was make a list of all my unfinished projects. This includes everything from a project that just needs a couple little things done to complete it and others that will take hours to complete.
- Then I wrote all of those projects on strips of paper. Folded them and added them to a pretty thrifted jar. I love pretty things in my craft room.
- I then made a spot for it on my shelf where I’d see it every day.
Next Steps
Beginning in January, I will draw a slip of paper from the jar and work on that project until it’s done. To ensure that I work on it consistently, I’ve chosen a specific day of the week to spend a couple hours working on it. Some weeks I may be able to dedicate a bit more time, but I know that others, a couple hours is all that I’ll be able to manage.
Once that project is complete, I’ll choose another slip and keep going for as long as it takes, or until the end of the year. As a reward, after completing a project, I’ll treat myself to something fun. It could be a coffee & thrifting date with my husband, or a trip to HomeSense, or the Hodge Podge Lodge or something else.
Realistically, I don’t expect to finish all the projects. This is something I’ll be working on right along with everything else I do, so my time to work on these tasks will be limited.
To keep from adding to my unfinished projects, my goal is to finish everything I start. So if I decide to start a project, I will finish it, not ditch it half way through. If I’m busy, there will be no starting another project until I know I have the time to finish it. The only exception will be my 2026 documenting project, which will be a year long project.
I’m looking forward to tackling these projects and to working on my stash busting! But I have a few things to wrap up before the end of this year before I begin.
If you’ve got lots of unfinished projects or would like some stash busting project ideas, I will be launching something that may help in the new year. Stay tuned!
Until next time,

That’s an amazing idea. Good thinking. I hope you get everything you want accomplished. Merry Christmas.
Great idea!! Thanks for sharing,. Happy holidays!
Great idea – so many UFOs here. Just writing them out is scary.
LOve this idea….I have too many projects started, and constantly starting something new,
because it is new! I drive myself crazy…not sure if a jar would hold all of my unfinished projects! LOL
Will watch for your progress and any other ideas you might have in the new year! 🙂 Thanks so much!
