For this weeks memory keeping Monday blog post I’m sharing this Happy Together 6×8 layout. The photo is a single 3″x 4″ photo of us with a few family members from Calgary. We went to this delicious Greek restaurant called Broken Plate. It was amazing! If you are from the Calgary area, I highly recommend it.
When I sat down to create the layout I was in the mood to play. I didn’t want to just stamp and die cut. So I grabbed some water colour paper and created a wash which is what’s shown below.
Here’s how I did it…
- Choose your ink colours and add a drop of refill to the lid of each ink pad.
- Spritz the watercolour paper with water.
- Using the widest water painter add the first colour to the water colour paper. I found it best to start with the lightest colour and work my way up. It works best with a wet brush so either squeeze your water painter or have a dish of water handy.
- After adding the wheat to a few different areas, I went in with some moody mauve and then copper clay ensuring all areas were covered.
- Then I used the heat tool to dry the card stock.
- I trimmed it down to 6″ and used the changing leaves hybrid folder and dies to cut the leaves. This gave a beautiful embossed leaf image.
- The die that goes with the embossing folder only cuts three leaves so I fussy cut the rest of the embossed leaves and used those around the circle on the right page.
To fill in the clusters I die cut a few of the sprigs and leaves that are also included in the die set. The photo felt like it needed a little something to make it pop off the page so I backed it with a bit of white and then grabbed a scrap piece of copper clay dsp and a piece of wild wheat card stock. To add a bit of texture I tore the dsp and crumpled the wheat card stock. Neither of these pieces mat the entire photo but it does provide a few more layers and makes the photo feel more substantial on the layout.
I really didn’t want to waste all those pretty leaves so I thought I’d add them around a die cut circle that holds my title and journaling. To finish off the layout, I added some copper dots.
Hope you enjoyed this weeks memory keeping project. I’ve been having fun catching up on my 6×8 album.
Until next time,
