In today’s post I’m going to chat a little about hand stitching on a card. Stampin’ Up! just released these fabulous dies where you have the option to add holes so that you can add stitching. First of all I love that this is optional – this provides for more versatility with the dies. Second of all check out the texture that stitching adds!
Don’t have dies that add holes to your die cut? Use a paper piercing tool and add your own. There’s no reason you can’t add this fun detail to any of your solid die cut images!
Let’s take a closer look…
I chose to create a larger card – it’s 6″ x 6″. It’s fun to switch up your card shapes and sizes everyone once in awhile. It helps keep your creativity flowing. I went with a piece of crumb cake two-tone card stock as my base, with the dark side out. Then for the embossed layer I used the light side. This provides a subtle contrast between the two layers.
The layer of basic beige on the card front is also two-tone card stock. I just love the muted look you get when you stamp on the two tone card stock. The ink ends up almost fading a bit to give it a bit of a different look. It does take longer to dry on this card stock than our regular though so keep that in mind.
Measurements:
- Crumb Cake Two Tone: 6″ x 12″ scored at 6″; 5-3/4″ x 5-3/4″ embossed with the Forever Plaid embossing folder
- Early Espresso: 4-3/4″ x 4-3/4″
- Basic Beige Two Tone: 4-1/2″ x 4-1/2″
- Basic Beige: 5-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ (inside)
- Old Olive: 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″
- Gathering Together DSP: 2″ x 6″; 1″ x 5-1/2″ cut 1/4″ strip off of it and flip over (both pieces for the inside); strip for envelope flap if desired
- Old Olive Linen Thread
- Streaked Dots: x3
See how the card comes together in the video below.
If you aren’t interested in the time that it takes to do the stitching you can always go for the faux stitching look like I did in the card below. I simply used a Stampin’ Blend (marker) to join the dots.
Until next time,
