For this weeks memory keeping Monday blog post I’ve got a from sketch to layout project for you. I love that Stampin’ Up!® has started including sketches in their catalogues. Sketches are such a great way to get the creativity flowing when you sit down to craft.
I thought it would be fun to start a summer sketch series. What do you think? Stampin’ Up! has provided this free download (shown above) that you can print off. It includes card, scrapbook layout and tag sketches. I’ll be using a variety of these and share other places that I find sketches as well.
Let’s take a look at our first sketch
Our first sketch is the one shown above. There are lots of different ways that sketches can be interpreted and no rules. Sketches are meant to be used as inspiration, a jumping off point for your creativity. They don’t need to be replicated exactly as shown.
I did stick very closely to the layout for this weeks share. One of the simplest ways to alter a sketch is to change up the shape of an element. So for example, I changed up the bottom rectangle to a banner using the Party Banner dies. I also added an additional layer with the embossed banner. This uses the new Sunflower embossing folder (releases in July). It’s such a fabulous embossing folder. You’re going to be seeing a lot of it!
I knew I wouldn’t be adding any journaling to this layout so decided to replace the journaling spot with my title. But doing this made it kind of plain made a pretty open area with lots of ‘white space’ to the upper left. I use the term ‘white space’ to indicate an area where there is nothing – no title, journaling, embellishments or anything else. A lot of ‘white space’ is something I like on my layouts but I felt like it did need a little something, so I added in a couple little scraps of card stock, dsp and twine to the top.
If you decide to play along with the summer sketch series, be sure to tag me (@stampedtreasures) on Facebook or Instagram so I can see what you make! Even if you don’t scrapbook, elements of this sketch could be turned into a card!
Until next time,

The Month by Month Album Retreat kit includes many additional supplies, I used the alphabet stamp set that came in that kit on the layout. In addition to these supplies, I also used retired Wild Wheat card stock and the soon to be released Sunflower embossing folder.
