For this weeks memory keeping Monday blog post I’m sharing a fun family time layout that uses LOTS of stuff from my stash. Everything from Thickers, to scraps of patterned paper, alphabet stickers, and some prepped pieces that never got used was used on this layout. A great project to share for week two of my summer long scrap your stash series.
This layout is a great example of how you can combine different patterned papers. I’ve used lots of patterned paper on this page, and not all of it is from the same collection!
Here are the scraps that I started with. Anyone recognize these patterns? They are OLD! Especially that yellow one in the back! I had cut out the middle of the other side, for a previous project (years ago lol) but kept the outside frame because I love the polka dots. The piece with the circles on it was partially matted for another project and then never got used. I kept it thinking it would come in handy some day.
If you haven’t guessed, I have a thing for polka dots, stripes (especially diagonal stripes) and buffalo plaid. I’m also a huge fan of geometric shapes.
Here’s a look at how I layered some of the pieces. I think the white layer in between really tones the mix of patterns down. It also helps that the scale of the patterns is different. We’ve got the yellow polka dot which is a small scaled pattern. The diagonal stripe which is a mid scale pattern and then the bolder, larger pattern with the circles. By mixing the scale, or size of the patterns, you can easily combine a variety of patterns.
When I matted my photos, with a bit of white and then some of the pool party patterned paper (on the one) and added them to the layout, I felt the layout was a bit too busy. My solution was to take a piece of vellum (8-1/2″ x 8-1/2″) and add it over top of the circle patterned paper. It’s subtle but it does mute that pattern a bit.
More Details…
- The Thickers (shown in the supply photo above) were white but I really wanted them to pop a bit more. So I coloured the word ‘family’ with my dark daffodil delight Stampin’ Blend and the two hearts with dark calypso coral.
- I really wanted the word ‘time’ for the rest of my title but I didn’t have any ‘I’ leftover. However, I did have 2 ‘Fs’. So I cut one of them apart to create an ‘I’. I do this often with alphabet stickers to make them stretch a little further.
- The words ‘together’ and ’embracing’ and two of the hearts are puffy stickers from Elle’s Studio (also from my stash).
- The dots are some retired Opaque Adhesive-Backed Gems.
Overall I think the layout came together nicely. It’s a little busier than my usual layout but I was happy to use so many bits and pieces from my stash.
I hope you join in on my summer scrap your stash challenge.
Until next time,
