This fall themed mixed media layout is not my usual style but I’m embracing scrapbooking tip #25 to Experiment, play and have fun. I definitely did all of those things on this layout.
This layout is completed using scraps, leftover kit pieces and a hodgepodge of odds & ends. I love it when I can just go to my scrap bins and pull from them.
Last week I shared a fall layout that uses leftover paper pumpkin pieces from a 2017 kit. This will be the facing page to that layout. It uses some of the same products but has a completely different feel.
This layout actually ended up going in a completely different direction than what I had planned. My plan was to have a circle of leaves with some mixed media in the background and a cluster with my photo in the lower right side of the circle. It just wasn’t working. So I ended up changing directions and doing something completely different. I’m happy I did!
The details…
The first thing I did was prep my white card stock with gesso. I knew I wanted to add lots of moisture and texture to the base and I didn’t want the page to buckle under the moisture.
Next I mixed a couple drops of grapefruit grove ink refill with some texture paste. I used the dotted stencil from the Basic Pattern Decorative Masks as my template and applied the coloured paste.
Once that was dry I added a drop of cajun craze ink refill on a piece of plastic and gave it a couple sprays with some water. I then just applied that mix to the page by turning it upside down and giving it a little rub. It’s a bit more diluted than I would have liked. I wish it wasn’t quite so muted. I think I added too much water.
Now it was time to decide my photo cluster. I used scraps from a couple different paper packs (all listed in the supplies below) and leftover die cut pieces from my die cut bin. ALL of these pieces are leftover pieces. I love it! I often ask myself why I keep all the bits and pieces but then a layout like this puts them to use and it all feels justified.
So many of the pieces came from previous Paper Pumpkin kits. I love those kits so much for all the die cut pieces you get. I often don’t use them for the projects they are intended for but save them for my scrapbooking. If you aren’t a subscriber, I really encourage you to give it a try! Whether you are new to stamping or an experienced stamper, these kits are great.
