For this Christmas One Sheet Wonder (OSW), I’m keeping things simple and starting with just two sheets of 6″ x 6″ patterned paper. The result? Four coordinating Christmas cards, with no leftover patterned paper!
If you’re looking for a fun way to build up your Christmas card stash without needing a pile of supplies or complicated designs, this is a great little project to try.
Two Sheets of Paper, Four Christmas Cards
For this project, I wanted to see what I could get out of a couple of sheets of 6″ x 6″ patterned paper. By planning the cuts carefully, I was able to use every piece of both sheets to create four card designs. This is a great opportunity to pull out some of those smaller patterned paper packs in your stash.
Here’s what I used to make these 4 cards:
- 2 sheets of 6×6 pattern paper (each piece cut into two 3″ x 4″ pieces, two 1″ x 4-1/4″ pieces and four 1/2″ x 1-3/4″ pieces) – see the video linked below for how to cut them.
- 1/2 a sheet of 6×6 pattern paper that I cut apart into tags
- 2 sheets of 8-1/2″ x 11″ thick basic white cardstock – cut into four 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ pieces to use as card bases.
- 1 sheet of coordinating cardstock cut into mats for the dsp (four 3-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ pieces and four 1-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ pieces)
- extra cardstock for greetings
- Ribbon, twine and embellishments to coordinate
No Waste Means No Leftover Scraps!
One of my favourite things about this particular layout is that every piece of patterned paper has a purpose. Sometimes when we’re cutting paper, we end up with pieces that are too small to use or get tucked away in the scrap bin for another day. There’s nothing wrong with saving those pieces, but it’s especially satisfying when you plan a project that uses everything. These little pieces are perfect for adding a bit of colour and pattern to this inside of your cards!
The cutting measurements, for this OSW, are designed so that all the pieces are used across the four cards. Be sure to watch the video for the complete cutting process. I’ll walk you through how I cut the two sheets of 6″ x 6″ paper and show you how all the pieces come together.
Make Them Your Own
Once the patterned paper pieces are cut, the rest is easy to customize. Here are a few ways you could change up the finished cards:
- Keep them simple: Add a stamped Christmas greeting and a few embellishments.
- Add some texture: Include an embossed cardstock layer or a little bit of ribbon.
- Use your scraps: Pull out coordinating cardstock scraps, die cuts or leftover embellishments.
- Change the colours: Try the same cutting pattern with a completely different collection of patterned paper.
- Make them more personal: Change the greetings to suit the people on your Christmas card list.
You could even use this exact cutting formula with non-Christmas patterned paper to create birthday, thank-you or everyday cards.

Ready to see how it all comes together? In the video, I share the cutting process, how I arrange the pieces and turn those two sheets of DSP into four finished Christmas cards.
I hope this inspires you to pull out some of your favourite patterned papers and give this OSW a try.
Sometimes all it takes is a little planning and a couple of sheets of paper to make something lovely. When there’s no waste left behind, that’s even better!
Happy crafting!

Such a nice assortment of Christmas cards, and I really like the foiled sentiments – it looks so professional.
