Welcome to card making using scraps #2 where I’ll be sharing a few ideas on how to use all those narrow strips we seem to have so many of, to create some fun cards. This is the second post in my year long series of ways to use scraps on your cards.
If you missed the previous post, you can find it here.
This month we’ll specifically focus on using strips of pattern paper and card stock. Because I don’t throw my scraps away, I always seem to have lots of strips in my stash. So I grabbed a couple packages of pattern paper and started playing.
It’s Your Birthday Card
I’ve been working with the Just Kiddin’ suite from the Stampin’ Up! January to April mini catalogue as I prepare for a catalogue launch event this weekend. So I thought this would be a great paper pack to start with… I had SO many scraps!
I started by cutting strips anywhere from 1/4″ to 1″ from my scrap pieces. Then just simply added them to a piece of white card stock, leaving a little bit of space in between. It turned out so colourful and fun – perfect for a birthday card for a little one.
But I didn’t stop there, I still had some scraps left so I repeated the pattern on the envelope flap! So fun!

- Vellum: 2-3/8″ circle

Here’s another version of the same card design just using the Flight & Airy pattern paper pack.
Happy Birthday Card
For this next card I repeated that same process but I used just one pattern paper and then added in some scraps of embossed coordinating card stock from my scraps. I love how this card turned out and will definitely be playing with different versions of this one. The background pops but isn’t as busy as the first card I shared.

You can take your strips a step further and create a fun pattern like I did for this card. This is just a random pattern but you could also do something like a herringbone pattern with your papers.

You can see how a couple of these cards were put together in the video below.
