If you know me at all, you know that I’m not a big fan of the colors pink and purple. I don’t mind a little pale pink now and again but bright pinks are not for me. That being said, I can’t get enough of this Painted with Love dsp. I don’t know if it’s the gold in it, the brush patterns or maybe just that we are nearing Valentine’s Day but I’ve been using it like crazy.
I’ve gotten hooked on a couple scrapbookers on Youtube – one of them is Inky Quill. I absolutely love how random she is. She uses mixed media, tissue paper, craft foam and all sorts of random things. One thing she doesn’t even use, or at least not often, is a paper cutter!! Everything is cut with scissors! That is so outside my comfort zone. Anyway I love her style and wanted to create an ‘Inky Quill’ type layout.
The first thing I did was look on my desk, because this year is all about finishing what I start. I had all the cut hearts left over from a project So I decided to use those. Then I pulled out the rest of the paper pack and grabbed a couple scraps to add behind the photo. Now to figure out what I was going to use to add some texture or pattern to the background. I looked in my drawer and had some paint but nothing that matched but did have some white paint. So I pulled out my ink refills and mixed a bit of rich razzleberry in with the white and then grabbed a paint brush and brushed it on. Then did the same with melon mambo. I tried not to think too much about what I was doing. I think that’s my problem, I over think everything and it has to be perfect. I just went with it.
After the paint was dry I added the hearts and pulled out my sewing machine and stitched up the center of them. It still felt like it needed something so I added a few splatters of black ink.
Here’s what it looks like before the photo and title were added. Before I added the photo I wanted to add a bit more gold so I pulled out the Painted Love Gold Vinyl Stickers and added a few of the brush stroke stickers.
After matting my photo and adding a few scraps of dsp behind the photo for a bit more pattern I added it to the center of the layout. The title was cut using my silhouette. I chose the title because the photo was taken on grad night, which is kind of bittersweet. Leaving behind the comfort of high school but excited about the opportunities ahead. I even mimicked the way Inky Quill does her journaling. She usually just freehands the lines with a black pen and then writes on them. Normally I would take out my pencil and my ruler, do my journaling and then erase the lines.
This layout was such a stretch for me but I absolutely love how it turned out. I will definitely be experimenting with this style a bit more. It doesn’t come easy for me like it does for so many others but I love that it’s pushing my creativity.
I hope you enjoyed my ‘Inky Quill’ed layout for today. If you haven’t checked out Inky Quill’s youtube channel, I encourage you to take a peek. She does amazing layouts.
Have a creative week!
