For this weeks memory keeping Monday post I’m sharing a simple way to add beautiful detail to your layout. There are so many fun ways to step up your layouts but todays uses something you would normally just toss!
Before we get into the technique that I want to share today, let’s talk about how I created the background. It was created using the packaging technique and some balmy blue ink. This is a technique I turn to often if I want to add a bit of colour to a white background. If you aren’t familiar with this technique, I share it in this video.
Because the background is subtle, I wanted to add a bit of colour so I pulled out the bright & cheerful full of life paper pack. I used the multicolour ray pattern paper to cut a pocket using the pocket thoughts dies. This is the perfect spot for a bit of journaling or an extra photo or two and a great way to add a pop of colour to a layout that has a lot of white space.
A Simple Way to Add Beautiful Detail
I created a little bit of an interactive element by adding a removable tag to the pocket. But I didn’t want it to just be a simple white tag. So I pulled out the following supplies and created this beautiful background using the negative space from a die cut leaf… a piece that would normally get tossed!
- Shaded Spruce Ink
- Blending Brush
- Negative space from a die cut leaf (from the Friends for Life dies)
- Black Stampin’ Write Marker
To create the background I used the negative space as a stencil and ink blended some shaded spruce ink to create this fun pattern.
To step it up even more, I did some doodling around the edges with a black Stampin’ Write Marker and then added a few trios of dots. It’s a simple technique that can be used to create beautiful backgrounds for your paper crafted projects.
Here’s a look at the tag pulled out of the pocket.
To add a bit more interest to the layout I used a few of the cloud dies from the Bright Skies dies. The clouds in this die set are so big and fluffy, I love them! I don’t know what it is about cloud dies but I love layouts with them on it.
The layout still needed a bit more colour so I pulled in a few scraps from the full of life dsp and then added some retired blue sequins from my stash.
I really love how this layout came together!
