In this weeks memory keeping post I’m sharing a simple way to use scraps on a layout. If you are new to my blog, I’ve challenged myself in 2024 to use my scraps as much as I can. And have been posting monthly videos with different ways to use them in your card making. You can find the playlist here.
However, scraps can also be a great thing to incorporate on your scrapbook layouts. In particular strips of pattern paper, which I always seem to have lots of!
Before we get into the details, this layout is a mixed size layout. The left page is 6″x 8″ and the right page is 4″ x 8″. I absolutely love mixing the page sizes in my 6″ x 8″ album.
Let’s take a look…
I decided that the Nature’s Sweetness DSP was a great choice to go with the two photos I was documenting. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I don’t have much of this pattern paper left. So my pattern choices were limited as were my sizes. But with a bit of creativity, I made it work.
To start with I cut as many 9″ strips as I could from my scraps, in varying widths. Then I went to the next longest pieces and cut a few of those. I then played around with positioning. There weren’t enough strips to cover the background so I decided to leave a space in between a few of the clusters of strips and then stamp some stitching using the retired Stitchery stamp set.
For the pieces that weren’t long enough I simply trimmed the strip so that it was long enough for the right page and then tucked the rest so that the end is under the photo cluster. No one will ever know:)
The Details…
Once the background was done, I went to my scraps to see what I had that would work. I ended up pulling out the embossed pecan pie circle, the camera, the tag and the pebbled path ribbon from my scrap bins. The circle was trimmed in half so I could put it in two different spots. I added a little petal pink heart to the centre of the camera lens and then wanted to add some touches of green.
I pulled out my current leaf die which is from the Love of Spring dies and die cut a couple of them from mossy meadow card stock. After adding my title using the mini alphabet dies and the willow lower alphabet set from Kerri Bradford, I added a few little trios of dots using my pebble path Stampin’ Write Marker and some baker’s twine.
I love how it turned out!
