Scrapbooking Pets with Playful Pets Stamped Treasures

Let’s talk about scrapbooking pets today. Our four legged furry (or feathered) friends are an important part of our lives. It’s important that they be included in our albums as well.

We don’t currently have any pets, and haven’t since our oldest was a baby. But my parents have a dog and she’s an important part of our lives. My kids LOVE her to pieces and she loves them. I want that relationship to be remembered so it’s important to me have a few layouts included in our albums.

I think the first thing to keep in mind is that it isn’t easy to get a good photo with a pet. They don’t sit still and won’t look at the camera when you want them to. If you do happen to get them to look at the camera, the lighting might not be right, the photo may not be entered or someones head might be cut off. Don’t expect perfection. You’ll likely have to take a lot of photos to find one you’re happy with.

The photo for this layout is a good example. It’s a good photo – both of them are looking at the camera, their expressions are priceless BUT there are significant shadows and my son’s head is cut off. That doesn’t matter – the photo is still perfect for telling the story of how Saje is always with Eathan when he’s around. She loves him to pieces.

To capture this photo both my husband and daughter were snapping photos to try to get Saje to look at them. This was the best one out of the dozen or so that we had to choose from.

Types of Stories to Tell

relationships – like this layout tells the story of Eathan’s sidekick, tell the story of the relationship between the animal and family member (or another pet)
day in the life – share the story of what a day in the life of your pet would be like
likes/dislikes – does your pet love to go for a walk? Does she grab the leash when she hears the word? What makes her growl or scared?
what he/she eats
favorite toys – or the toys that he/she has destroyed
quirky behaviours – does your pet do something that you find funny or unique to them? Do they sleep in a funny position? Burry themselves under the covers? Snap a photo and share those stories.
spa day – Saje has what my parents call a ‘spa day’ where she goes to the groomer and gets a fur trim and her nails clipped. Wouldn’t it be fun to ask the groomer to snap a photo or two over the course of her treatment and document the before, during and after?

All these little details are stories worth telling and portray the character of your pet. These are things that are fun to look back on. You don’t think you’ll ever forget but you do and it’s those little details that sometimes bring back the best memories.

Here’s another idea – include memorabilia on your layout. Maybe it’s an outgrown collar, a piece of a sweater or old toy, certificates or immunization records. Anything you would want to keep, and document, for your children you can do for your pets.
