Today I’m sharing 5 card ideas using 3×3 scraps of patterned paper. These card designs are great for using up sheets from your 6″ x 6″ paper pads or wider scraps in your paper packages.
With the holidays right around the corner and the need for lots of cards, these card designs might come in handy. If you wanted to use a whole piece of 12×12 patterned paper, you could get 16 3×3 squares from one full sheet. Which means you could make multiples of some of these.
Each of the cards I’m sharing begins with at least one 3″ x 3″ piece of patterned paper. If your patterned paper is double sided, you could use both sides of one sheet. I’ve chosen two sheets because the Shining Brightly Specialty paper is a single sided paper. This paper was combined with the Stars at Night Hybrid bundle from the Stampin’ Up! 2023 September to December mini catalogue and I threw in some coordinating ribbon, twine and retired gold enamel dots.
I’ve got a video linked below where I walk you through making all 5 of these cards.
For this first card, I’ve cut two 3″ x 3″ pieces into 1″ x 3″ strips. I’ve used all three of one design and then just one of another. The other two strips I’m saving for a couple of the other cards.
Measurements:
- Thick Very Vanilla: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
- Very Vanilla: 4-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ embossed and die cut with the Stars at Night folder and dies
- Night of Navy: 3-1/4″ x 4-5/8″
- Patterned Paper: 3″ x 3″ in two different patterns, cut into 1″ x 3″ strips
- Gold: 1″ x 1″
- Gold Enamel Dots: x3
The second card uses a full 3″ x 3″ piece of patterned paper with a greeting embossed on a piece of vanilla. The gold accents makes these cards feel so much more than they really are.
Measurements:
- Thick Very Vanilla: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
- Night of Navy: 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″
- Patterned Paper: 3″ x 3″
- Very Vanilla: 1-1/2″ x 3″
- Gold: 1″ x 1″
- Ribbon: 4″
- Gold Twine: 8″
- Gold Enamel Dots: x3
Card number 3 uses another 3″ x 3″ square and a leftover 1″ x 3″ piece from the first card. I cut the strip in half and tucked it under to give the illusion of a longer strip.
Measurements:
- Thick Very Vanilla: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
- Very Vanilla: 4″ x 5-1/4″ (embossed); leftover star from 1st card and scrap for greeting
- Night of Navy: 3-1/4″ x 3-1/4″
- Gold: 2″ x 3″
- Patterned Paper: 3″ x 3″ and 1″ x 3″
- Gold Twine: 8″
- Gold Enamel Dots: x3
For the 4th card, we are cutting our 3″ x 3″ pieces into four 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ squares. We’ll use 3 of them on this card and save the rest for the last card.
Measurements:
- Thick Very Vanilla: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″
- Very Vanilla: 4″ x 5-1/4″ embossed using the Stars at Night embossing folder; 1-3/4″ x 3-1/2″
- Night of Navy: 1-3/4″ x 5″ and 3″ x 3″ for die cutting
- Gold: 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ (x3 – in two different patterns)
- Twine: 8″
- Dots: x3
Our final card uses up all the leftover pieces we have… the 1″ x 3″ piece from the first card and the five 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ squares from the 4th card.
Measurements:
- Thick Very Vanilla: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
- Night of Navy: 3-1/4″ x 4-3/4″ and 1/2″ x 3″
- Pattern Paper: 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ (2 in one pattern and 3 in another)
- Gold: 1-1/2″ x 1-1/2″ embossed
- Very Vanilla: 3″ x 4″ for stamping
- Ribbon
- Dots: x3
