Shop your home for fun things to create with! The best part about crafting is the playing and experimenting. It’s amazing what you can create if you just let yourself go and have fun.
I talked about trying a new technique in tip #25. I shared a few things that you could try when you are playing, many of them can be found around your home. You can read that post here. But here are a few more ideas to add to those:
- buttons
- embroidery thread
- paper plates
- recipe cards
- felt
- fabric
- wire
- paint
Your creativity is really the only thing holding you back! You can get as artistic and elaborate as you’d like.
Todays Inspiration
For today’s inspiration I didn’t really shop my home but I did ‘shop’ my craft room. I’m a big fan of Paige Evans – she’s an amazing scrapbooker and mini album creator. Her pages are over the top. One of the things she loves to do is stitch on her layouts. She was my inspiration for todays layout.
This layout does not compare to Paiges layouts in any way. But after stitching this little bit on my layout, I appreciate what she does even more! I probably spent 3 hours on this simple layout. Stitching takes a LONG time!!
- My first step was to free hand draw the flowers.
- Then I used my paper piercing tool to poke holes.
- After erasing my pencil marks I started my stitching.
So where did I shop my craft room? I really wanted some melon mambo flowers but I didn’t have any melon mambo embroidery thread. So I looked through my retired bakers twine and had a black and melon mambo twine. I ended up separating the melon mambo and using that. For the centre of the flower, I wanted yellow. I didn’t have any so I used some gold thread leftover from an old paper pumpkin kit. All of the embellishments are bits and pieces leftover from kits or sticker sheets that I had laying around. It’s amazing how far you can stretch your leftovers.
Here’s a closer look at the stitching.
Hope you have a creative day!
