Today I’m sharing this Magnolia Mood card idea. This is the card that I created for my Mom for Mother’s Day. We didn’t get back from our holiday until Sunday so we celebrated a day late. I was searching only for some inspiration and I came across the Global Design Project colour challenge (#GDP445) and decided to stamp along with #stampinthroughthecatalog and use the Magnolia Mood bundle.
Participating in a challenge is a great way to jump start your creativity which I really needed after being away from my craft room for a week. Here’s what I ended up with.
Pretty Peacock and Petal Pink are two of my favourite colours but I never would have thought to combine them with Moody Mauve without the challenge! That’s another great thing about challenges – they help you to step outside of your comfort zone or provide you with ideas you may not have considered otherwise.
Measurements:
- Thick Basic White: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
- Pretty Peacock: 3-3/4″ x 5″ and scrap for die cutting

- Basic White: 3-5/8″ x 4-7/8″ and scrap for die cutting banner
- Moody Mauve Jute: 10″ separated into strands
- Moody Mauve Dots: x3
The Details…
- I started by stamping the smaller magnolia flower, using Petal Pink onto the same card stock to create a subtle pattern.
- Then used a blending brush and some Petal Pink ink to go around the edges.
- To add a little texture I embossed it using the Eyelet EF and then took my snips and went around the edges. Then splattered with the dark Pretty Peacock Stampin’ Blend.
- I also did the edges of the Pretty Peacock card stock and then layered those onto the card base.
- The greeting was inked using Pretty Peacock and Moody Mauve Stampin’ Write Markers and stamped onto a white banner cut from the Stylish Shapes dies.
- I die cut several of the leaf images from the Magnolia Mood dies from both Pretty Peacock and Moody Mauve card stock and created a little cluster behind the greeting.
- Before adding the greeting with dimensionals, I separated the threads of a piece of Moody Mauve jute and tied a bow. That was added to the card using a mini glue dot and then the greeting added over top.
- I finished it off by adding a few Moody Mauve in color dots.
I carried over the stamped & embossed Petal Pink card stock to the inside of the card. Normally I don’t matte the inside layer of my card but I happened to have a scrap of Moody Mauve on my desk and just went with it.
I even stamped and embossed the envelope flap. My Mom is worth all the extra effort that went into this card:)
Until next time,
