Have you ever tried adding hidden journaling to a layout? Hidden journaling can come in handy for a few reasons. Here are the ones that make me turn to hiding my journaling.
- I’ve designed a layout and I feel like it’s perfectly balanced only to realize that I don’t have anywhere to add my journaling.
- The story I want to tell isn’t meant for everyone’s eyes.
- On occasion I just like to have a little tag peeking out from behind a photo, or would like to include an interactive element to my layout.
If you haven’t tried including hidden journaling on a layout and are curious how to do it. Check out this short video that I shared.
Layout Details
This layout is for my 6″ x 8″ layout. The left page is 4″ x 8″ and the right 6″ x 8″. I love mixing up my page sizes in my albums – especially smaller albums. It makes it almost interactive when you flip through.
- The base of the layout is a piece of the Earthen Elegance DSP that I cut down.
- To mat the photo on the right, I stamped the Doggone Friendly background stamp on vellum using VersaMark and then embossed with black embossing powder. Then I trimmed around it so it didn’t look so boxy.
- I didn’t have any black embellishments so I pulled out some retired ones and coloured them with my basic black Stampin’ Blend. This is a great way to get embellishments in any of our colours:)
This is a very simple layout but every layout doesn’t need to have lots of detail to it. You really want the photos to be the focal point.
I know that the next question I’m going to get is how do you access the hidden journaling once your page is in a page protector. Not a problem! I have a solution for that too. Check out this video. In it I share how you can slit your page protector so that you can access the journaling.

In addition to the supplies listed below I also used some retired embellishments; a new colour card stock called Barely Beige and Kerri Bradford alphabet sets – Willow Upper (small) and Willow Lower.
