Scrapbooking Global May 2019 Blog Hop

I’ve had an idea in my head for a layout for weeks and sat down to try it out on Monday and it just wasn’t working. So today’s layout ended up going in a completely different direction. I even chose different photos. But I guess that’s what happens when you wait until the last minute to meet a deadline lol. I’m still determined to try my idea, I’ll just have to save it for another day.

I was flipping through my albums looking for some photos that might work for a masculine theme and came across photos of my daughter and husband at the 2018 Grey Cup. I decided they would be perfect. My challenge was that I had printed 4 photos, one of them 4×6 but only had one page in my album to dedicate to the photos. So I had to get creative!

I decided to create a layout that looks like an open book and even has a page to flip that reveals more photos. I LOVE how it turned out! On the left there’s a pocket that holds their tickets and then on the right one photo before they left for the game.

Wondering where the daffodil patterned paper came from? It’s from the Bird Ballad paper pack – not one you’d normally associate with football but it works! I was looking for a daffodil or curry coloured dsp and this was all I could find that was current and big enough for what I needed. It was exactly what I needed.

Now let’s talk about those footballs! I had to get a bit creative because I didn’t have any football stamps.

I punched out a 1 1/2″ circle from cajun craze. Then inserted the circle back into the punch to create more of an oval or lemon shape. To add the stitching I just used a white gel pen.

My family knows to take photos when they go out and do things and save any ticket stubs/programs etc. because they know I’m going to want to scrapbook them. I’ve trained them well:) A lot of the accents for this layout were cut from the folder that the tickets came in. I never throw anything away until I’ve scrapbooked the event, who knows what will be useful!

If you look in the upper right corner of the layout, you’ll see a tab that says ‘flip’. When you do that, it reveals a whole other layout. It’s like flipping the page in a book.

How fun is that?! You’re probably thinking that’s great Sherry but what do you do when it’s in a page protector in your album? I’ve got a solution for that! I slit my page protector down the middle and the page that has the tab sits on top. It’s hard to tell but here’s a photo of it in the page protector.

The left side of the page is under the page protector and the right side sits on top. Then when you flip the page, the right side is under the page protector and what was the right is now on the left.

I like being able to have interactive things on my pages so I will slit my page protectors when needed.    It’s easy to do, all you need is an Xacto knife, metal ruler and a piece of chipboard or self healing mat that will fit into your page protector because you only want to cut the one side. Because you are customizing that page protector for that particular layout, it’s helpful to know where in the album it’s going to reside or be willing to work around it. Because of the way I organize my photos and completed layouts I knew that it would live behind another completed layout so I used that page protector and made sure to cut the back side.
