For this weeks memory keeping Monday post I’m sharing some tips on scrapbooking with odds & ends. The layout I’m sharing was the last one I created using the Storybook Life scrapbooking workshop kit. There wasn’t a lot of product left that I wanted to put together so I dug into my stash.
Here’s what I pulled out and where it came from:
- Storybook Life scrapbooking workshop kit: 12×12 lost lagoon two-tone card stock; the label shape and frame
- Stamp sets: Textured Elements and Textured Notes – two of my favourites at the moment
- Tag was cut using the Greetings of the Season dies which are on the last chance list. I’ll continue to use these as much as possible until they are no longer available:)
- Iridescent Rhinestones pulled from my stash. They retired a year or two ago.
- This Right Here acrylic piece is from Color Cast. I’ve had it in my stash for awhile and I thought it worked well with this monochromatic layout.
- A scrap of pretty peacock and gold ribbon from my ribbon scraps.
I love mixing random products when I scrapbook. Part of the fun when you scrapbook is going through your supplies and finding things that work together to create your finished layout.
My goal for this layout was to put the last few pieces, from the Storybook Life workshop kit, that I loved to use. I really liked the frame and still had that piece of 12×12 lost lagoon card stock. None of the pattern paper that I had left seemed to work with these supplies. Plus I had an idea to just stamp the background instead of adding dsp. I really wanted the frame and, eventual photo, to be the focal point.
So I went through my stash and pulled out bits and pieces that would work together to create the layout.
Tips on creating with odds & ends
- Start with a couple focal pieces, or photos. For this layout it was the frame and that piece of 12×12.
- Consider if there’s anything that you have your heart set on using. Does it work with the items you’ve pulled out so far. For this layout, it was the Textured Notes stamp set. I had just received it and really wanted to ink it up.
- What else coordinates with what you’ve pulled out? I wanted to add in another stamp set for even more texture so pulled in the Elements of Text stamp set. It works beautifully with the images in the Textured Notes.
- Before you pull out any pattern paper, embellishments or ribbon, check your scraps. I think we often forget to look in our scrap bins. Often times you’ll find the perfect piece of pattern paper or scrap of ribbon without having to cut from a full sheet or spool.
- Try to use up some of those bits & pieces you only have a few of. For me it’s embellishments. I often have just a few embellishments left in a package and I love the feeling of finishing things off. So I’ll try to use up what I can.
Digging into your stash reminds you of what you have and sometimes reveals the perfect addition to your project. I encourage you to give it a try next time you sit down to craft.
Until next time,
