Today I’m sharing 5 birthday cards using scraps of pattern paper. This is the 5th post in my year long series on using scraps to make cards. You can find a few of the other posts linked below.
I was inspired by the few pieces of Nature’s Sweetness DSP that I had left as I was pulling out my retiring pattern papers. I’ve used so much of this amazing specialty paper and am excited that it’s carrying over. Despite it carrying over, I decided to see how much of it I could use.
I created these 5 cards using the pieces shown above. If you’d like to see how they come together, check out the video below.
Cards 1 & 2
The design process always takes the longest so if I have enough supplies to make multiples, I will usually do that. If you look closely there are a few differences between these cards, but they are the same layout.
I used the Spotlight on Nature dies, which are a brand new product, due to release on May 1st, when the annual catalogue goes live. You can definitely get a similar look by using regular circle dies or punches.
Measurements:
- Thick Basic White: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
- Basic White: 3-3/4″ x 5″ embossed using the distressed tile EF and scrap for greeting
- Nature’s Sweetness DSP: 2-3/4″ circle; 2-1/4″ circle; 1-5/8″ circle
- Pecan Pie: 1″ circle
- Brushed Metallic Dots or Cork Rounds
- Gold Twine: 8″ or White Twine 8″
Cards 3 & 4
I took the largest piece of leftover pattern paper and cut it into two pieces to use as a background for my focal point. It’s hard to tell from the photo but the magnolia bud is embossed in gold.
Measurements:
- Thick Basic White: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″
- Nature’s Sweetness DSP: Gold Grid 3-3/4″ x 5″; gold leaf pattern 1/2″ x 3-3/4″ and the leaf and flower pattern about 1/2″ or 3/4″ x 3-3/4″ (whatever you have)
- Pecan Pie: 2-3/4″ circle
- Basic White: 2-3/4″ x 3-1/4″ for stamping
- Pebbled Path Jute: 8″
- Cork Rounds: x3
Card 5
For the final card I took the largest piece of pattern paper I had left and divided it in two lengthwise and widthwise. That gave me 4 even strips. I used three on the outside and a portion of the last one on the inside. See the video for the inside of the cards.
Measurements:
- Pebbled Path: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″ ; 2-3/4″ x 2-3/4″ for die cutting the leaf
- Basic White: 4″ x 5-1/4″ and 1″ x 3″
- Nature’s Sweetness DSP: 1-5/8″ x 4-1/2″ (x3) and scraps for inside
- Vellum: 2-1/4″ circle
- Gold Ribbon: 6″
- Pebbled Path Jute: 8″
If you’d like to follow along on my journey to use up my scraps. Be sure to check out this playlist on Youtube where I’ll be documenting the different ways I come up with to use them.
Until next time,
